Welcome back...but wasn't it just, like, yesterday that we were here last? Yep. It was... That's what you get for blindly bidding on a bunch o' stuff on Sunday night auctions...and then returning to see that you've "won" a bunch. Oops!
So, let's get on with today's post. I have so much to do. I'm packing, the house is a mess, I have company coming (!!!) and am expecting a plumber. O' the joy... (NOT!)
STAR WARS (Special Edition trilogy re-release):
Didn't I just add this to the previous post? Uh, well, yes... sort of. Oops! I ended up winning two of nearly the same poster. The only difference I can see is that this one gives dates for the releases. The other one had no dates mentioned. Snore.
STAR WARS (Special Edition rerelease):
Boy, I guess the Special Edition rereleases really are not fan favorites. I was totally expecting to be outbid. I wasn't. Oops...
Oh my! Such HIDEOUS art! I love it. Wild Guitar is another bottom-o-the-barrel Ray Dennis Steckler flick. This is one of a string of films he made that starred Arch Hall, Jr. -- a guy whose father tried to turn into a movie/recording star, as he (Arch Hall, Sr) financed all of his son's films. ("Nicholas Merriwether" is an alias for Arch Hall, Sr.) There is a more polished (and far more common) one sheet for this flick. I had NEVER seen this one, and--as I said--it is God AWFUL. I had to have it. It smashes the fun barrier! Ha!
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (Remake):
This movie is crap...but do I have the one sheet? Hmm. I have all of the NIGHTMARE posters, but this one I wasn't sure about, so...
ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM:
I'm not sure I had this one either--not that I needed it. The film was rather weak. BUT... this super cheap.
AVATAR (International):
AVATAR was is, if I'm not mistaken, the biggest box office hit ever to date. Is that correct? I know sequels are on their way--but I hope James Cameron did NOT delay making them too long. I expected to be outbid on this one sheet. Yes, it's an international version, but still. Nope. I won it for the minimum bid of $10. Perhaps the AVATAR hoopla has moved on...
BEHIND THE MASK:
Another poster I didn't know existed (I thought this went straight to video?) and am surprised to have gotten for a minimum bid. This was a popular little flick in its day. It was also rather clever. But minimum bid? It's already forgotten. Zowie...
GODZILLA 2000:
I saw this in the theater. While not great, it was better than that Matthew Broderick thing in the late 90s. To me, the thing Godzilla was battling looked like a giant bed pan. I think it morphed into something else, but for the longest time I expected the Big G to try and take a dump in it. Ha!
HELLBOY (International advance):
I've never seen the HELLBOY films, but this poster looked interesting and different from any other I've seen. Okay...sold.
FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN (military rerelease):
Goodness me... I remember back, maybe 10, 15 or 20 years ago, military one sheets were something to snub. They were dirt cheap. And now look at me spending hundreds for a Universal monster military poster. This is the third military monster poster I own. I guess we'll do anything for our monsters. I'm actually excited about this one.
And that is it. Thanks for visiting once again. Please show yourself out. I've got to get back to my packing...
Greetings! And welcome back to the Shock-O-Rama Poster Show! My stars! The clock is ticking on my upcoming move--and what do I do? Buy MORE posters! UGH! Here then, quickly, is a look at what I picked up in my last days left in California.
It's not much, but... HERE it is:
VILLAGE PEOPLE - RENAISSANCE (Album promotional poster):
Ha! Ha! Ha! I just have to laugh. On a Sunday evening, after an exhausting a full day of packing for my move, I got an invoice from Movie Poster Exchange. Of all of the things I had bid on, the ONLY poster I had won was this crazy craptastic Village People poster for the promotion of their (forgotten) album RENAISSANCE. So why would I bid on this? Well, just look at it. Too funny. It's no secret I like trash. I came to "discover" (if that is the right term) the Village People LONG after they were off of anyone's radar. They were just too campy and unintentionally funny not to dig them. Their RENAISSANCE album (which I bought, like all of their albums, years after it came out---and do not remember any of the songs listed below) came out after disco had died and they were struggling to stay relevant. Renaissance was their attempt to become part of the (what was it called?) New Romantic (??) movement of the 80s (i.e. Spandau Ballet, The Romantics, etc.). Instead, their attempted New Romantic makeup job looks more like Clown School Cosmetology 101. What they hell were they thinking? Somewhere around this time they tried to change their names to the hip sounding (??) "The VPs"--and that was a big FAIL, too! Ha! Too funny. Just like this poster. it makes me laugh. I haven't bothered with the VPs, er...Village People in years. But what the heck?
BLAST-OFF GIRLS:
I already have one of these---but this HG Lewis poster was going for less than I thought it should, so...I bid and...the rest is history and a slightly higher credit card balance.
THIS STUFF'LL KILL YA!:
Another Herschell Gordon Lewis poster I already had and another I thought was going too cheaply. So, I bought it...
I know nothing about this flick. I'm guessing it's bad (which would not be a surprise at all). I did like the clever use of the stalagmites and stalactites of the cave in the artwork to suggest teeth in a frightening mouth. It was cheap. Eh...
THE LIVING IDOL:
I admit, I have not seen this flick. Someone posted a copy of this poster that they had on All Poster Forum a few years ago. The image of the woman tied to the stakes and the wild verbiage ("Amazing drama of love and reincarnation") hooked me. I started seeking a copy out for myself, and finally... Voila!
BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA:
This is not the most attractive poster ever. It's kind of BLAH actually. I've been looking for one--casually-not so desperately...for years. Whoopie for me, I finally scored one. What's the deal? This was the very first Sam Peckinpah movie I ever saw. With a title like BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA, is that any surprise that I gleefully rented this puppy in the VHS era? Ha! It wasn't what I expected at all--but it was a decent introduction to Peckinpah, and I am forever glad to have made his "acquaintance", so to speak. YEARS later, when I was a writer at The Fresno Bee newspaper, I ended up having to do a (very glossed over, quickie) article on Peckinpah. I didn't know it until I started the research, but Peckinpah was born in Fresno in 1925 (which was probably why I was given the assignment. Duh!)--so there was yet another connection or two.
KING KONG (1968 re-release?): I came across one of these a couple of years ago on eBay. I should have bought it then (it was cheaper) and I was really considering it...but then someone else did. Argh! And this poster is a bit of a mystery... It's an odd size, 25x38, but it seems as if it is (trying to be?) a legit re-release poster. Just look at the verbiage on it. It's no secret I dig KING KONG. So why didn't I snatch this up right away before? Because of one stupid thing... The artwork is not original. It's the the poster art for KONGA, reversed and in black & white with the one arm raised higher and the biplanes added in.
FRANKENSTEIN (Egyptian 2000s re-release):
Normally, I'd skip re-releases---but when it comes to certain posters that I will NEVER be able to afford, I sometimes make an exception. From a recent eMovieposter auction, I picked up this Egyptian FRANKENSTEIN re-release. I'm not wild that it's a one sheet using an apparent insert to reprint the art...BUT, when will I ever be able to afford an original FRANKENSTEIN ? It's a REAL, theater-used poster. SOLD!
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (Egyptian 2000s re-release):
What I said about the FRANKENSTEIN poster above goes for this nifty THE DAY THE WORLD STOOD STILL. I'll probably never own the original---so this is a good, legit substitute. My complaint is that the Egyptian lettering on this one is too prominent on this one. It's much more discrete (i.e. less noticeable) on some of the others... But I am still glad to have snagged it.
DRACULA (Egyptian 2000s re-release):
Yes--another Egyptian re-release. Of all of the early DRACULA poster styles, this may be my favorite. Glad to have scored it.
And that's it. Now, I seriously doubt I'll have a new post for a while. ALL of my posters are now packed away. My move is scheduled for November 2nd. I still have a LOT to pack and get ready for. (That's not to say I won't be bidding on anything. Emovie's late October auctions--especially the Halloween one--are calling to me, AND they will hold items for weeks afterwards, giving me a chance to get moved and settled in somewhat.)
Have a groovy October and a spooky good Halloween (and do NOT bid on the posters I'm after, please! Ha!)
Village People - what a hoot! The guy on the right looks like Lux Interior from the Cramps had painted himself up and dropped in the photo shoot for a laff. The Egyptian stuff is great. All well curated.
Village People - what a hoot! The guy on the right looks like Lux Interior from the Cramps had painted himself up and dropped in the photo shoot for a laff. The Egyptian stuff is great. All well curated.
Ha! It sort of does look like Lux a little. I can't even imagine what would have resulted if The Cramps had teamed up with the Village People. O' the horror that would have been. Ha!
The movers are coming! And, what's this? ANOTHER poster post? What??? I know. I know. I do not have time for this, but here we are anyway. I've got another box to pack. If you'll excuse me, I'll let you wander through today's poster show on your own...
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 3D (3D Glasses):
I saw this flick TWICE when it came out in 1983 and kept both pair of glasses. Have I seen them while going through boxes and stuff for my move? Nope! I ran out of time--with many boxes left yet to be explored (Man, I've got a LOT of crap!)--and just went ahead and bought this pair when they showed up on eBay. I can always resell them later, I am sure. I've seen lots of other pairs of supposed authentic 3D glasses for this film come and go. The red and blue lenses were NOT the ones from the original release. (I'm old. I was there. I know.) These, with the lame doodle of Jason's arm stabbing a poker (presumably through the viewer's right eye!?!) are what was passed out in theaters back then. YIKES! Into my 80s 3D glasses display it goes...once I find and unpack the display, that is! Ha!
FINAL DESTINATION:
I bought this on a recent online auction. The description mistakenly listed it as a lenticular--so I bid. And then, I came across the lenticular elsewhere in the auction and bid on that. I ended up winning both. I don't know that I own a paper one sheet---so I am okay with this, I suppose. I do like the series and it was only $10.
And, of course, here is the lenticular...This was strangely inexpensive as well. $23 or so, I think? Good deal. I did like the FINAL DESTINATION series---although its gimmick got old quickly, lasting, what? Five or six films only? Still it was initially clever---and this is the poster from that first film.
CHOPPER CHICKS IN ZOMBIETOWN:
I never saw this late '80's flick. I never realized it had a theatrical release, actually. I do remember seeing it in my local video store. I was uber-curious about the title--how could I not be? The poster art was fun (and very '80s). Maybe someday I'll bother to track down the film as well.
CHOPPER CHICKS IN ZOMBIETOWN:
Oops! Before the one above appeared on eMovie, I spotted this one on eBay and bought it. When I came across it for the right price (or so I thought)--sold! Folded, and more wear than the eMovie version above...and more expensive. Waaagh! Oh well...
A SCREAM IN THE STREETS:
This is a Harry Novak production for his Box Office International releasing company---and played drive ins over and over and over for years. I never saw it at the drive in, but I did catch it on home video in the VHS era. It's recently found new life on BluRay through Severin. As I recall, the film was all kinds of crackpot sleazy, with a (spoiler) very bad/obvious drag queen who was a strangler of women. Cops are on his/her trail, but they and others stop to have the closest thing to pornographic sex (without actually being pornographic sex) I've ever seen in an R-rated movie. I think I might have a copy of the poster already. But, just in case I didn't, this wasn't crazy expensive, so...
SURF NAZIS MUST DIE:
Like CHOPPER CHICKS IN ZOMBIETOWN, I couldn't pass up this cool-titled poster. I remember when this played. I wanted to see it so badly. It sounded rad. This was just before I learned what Troma was and the typical quality of a Troma movie. I don't recall if I saw this on VHS or not. Is it worth tracking down? I'm guessing that a Frankie & Annette BEACH PARTY movie this is NOT. Ha!
Here is a bizarre-O grindhouse classic. This hails from 1979 and is about two deformed men (one has no arms--they are "cut off" in the story, but the man was born without them--and the other has withered, useless legs--which were also "destroyed" as part of the storyline) who learn to overcome their handicaps and get revenge against the mob boss who crippled them. It is shocking but amazing at the same time. The two actors are very skilled in their martial arts craft. There were actually TWO sequels made--but I don't think they were released theatrically here.
ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY (Half sheet):
If you've paid attention over the years, you'd find I almost NEVER buy half sheets. I've just never cared for them. So why a half sheet now? Hello!?! ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY?? I've been wanting one of these for eons. I'd rather have a full sheet...but until I ever get one, this is a nice place holder. The one sheets, when they bother to show up, are not crazy expensive...they are just elusive and don't show up often. I DO have a spot in mind to hang this already, actually. In the new house there is a lower floor (I'm on a hillside). All that is down there is a garage and one bedroom. That bedroom is destined to be a home tiki bar. In the stairway down, I plan to hand jungle- or island-themed posters, along with tiki masks and other tiki-esque items, with vines coming down the walls and ceiling--all leading up to the tiki bar. Right at the first turn in the stairs, there is a spot too small for a one sheet...so that is where ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY will hang. Yes, Bela Lugosi is in it. Wally Brown and Alan Carney are sort of Abbott & Costello wannabes. Despite the absurd title--YES, this is a REAL movie. Now, if the tiki gods could just get me the one sheet...
MOTHRA:
Wow! Color me surprised---and BROKE! I won this in eMovie's Halloween auction. There were several things I bid on. Despite my move (the trucks come Nov, 2--Tuesday!) and the preparations for it, I spent Halloween largely away from the house. I saw HALLOWEEN KILLS, went to lunch with a very sick (cancer), older friend, and dropped by another friend's place to bring her a lot of stuff I can't take with me to Washington. I was gone about 6 hours. I was able to check in on the auction from time to time, but by and large I missed it. When the smoke cleared by the day's end. This (and CHOPPER CHICKS IN ZOMBIETOWN) was my only win. I was a bit disappointed (I sooooo wanted REVENGE OF THE CREATURE or THE UNIVITED), but also floored that MOTHRA became mine. MOTHRA is on the list of posters I don't have but really want...or it was. Yahoo! It's not the best poster ever--but still, it's MOTHRA! Now if I could just get an original GODZILLA (non-linebacked and for far less than the $2,500+ it got on eMovie).... Ha!
And that's ten. I am literally going to be moving as of tomorrow. I'm leaving here on the 4th and expect to be in my new home sometime on the 6th. I haven't stopped shopping after all---just had 7 of the 10 items held until after the move. When will I be back? Who knows? But ugh--with the unpacking goes the cataloguing and reframing/hanging. Oh, and the holidays as well. Blah! It's not going to be fun.
Great buncha stuff, MAGG-o-matic! Great scores on Bela and Mothra, and a bit of Troma is always fun too. I think the only Troma I have is Redneck Zombies, as I thought it would go well in this part of the country, and I could display it with a Zombie Strippers 1 sheet.
Good luck with the start of the move today. I hope all goes well and smoothly.
Movers should be here any minute. Ugh. I just want this ordeal OVER with. Thanks for visiting the thread. I am glad you dig some of the stuff. Your zombie poster double feature sounds delightful. Cheers to you and happy November.
I'm sure it's of little consolation with your stress level peaked, but I've packed boxes and moving trucks for myself, family and friends more times than I can count (not that I can count very high anyway), but also had the benefit of movers 3 different times (provided by the ex-mrs' employers), and the latter is definitely an advantage in quite a few ways. So, at least you have that going for you and you're not schlepping boxes and furniture on and off the truck at both ends. It'll be over fairly quickly, and you can start your hopefully exciting new life chapters soon.
Rockabilly 777 and Okie! Thank you for your visit and encouragement about the move. I guess the worst part---PACKING--is over. I just have the drive up still (with a tortoise who will hopefully sleep through the journey instead of freaking out the whole time) to go...and then the delivery. At least there is already some furniture up there and some of my crap (like booze! Ha!) from previous trips up. I'll keep you posted. Cheers!
It's that time of the year again--the END. While 2021 was a better year than 2020, it still had a lot to be desired. But that's not to say it was a bad year for poster acquisitions---at least from my perspective. I didn't buy all that many---certainly far fewer than in previous years. However, in preparing this list and looking back on what I got in 2021, I was really pleased with what I had scored. The ones I've added to this year's list are my favorite pickups. Some things will be noticeably absent, such as my original STAR WARS or CHINATOWN or even the obvious horror hit HALLOWEEN KILLS. While all of those are nice (as are many others I picked up as well), the ones below are the ones that really "did it" for me. Take a gander, if you will. They are in reverse order--with my Number 1 poster pick at the bottom.
20: HELP:
Not the most exciting poster ever...but an original release Beatles poster? (And for a very fun film to boot?) I'll take it! Yahoo!
19: FROGS (Italian 2F):
This is a fun, colorful poster of nature gone wild. As I pointed out when I first shared this purchase, there's not a single frog to be seen on it. Despite the fact it played as FROGS in Italy, I don't think anyone there knew what FROGS meant. "Frogs" in Italian is "rane". Who knows what they thought they were seeing...
18: DOOR TO DOOR MANIAC (aka FIVE MINUTES TO LIVE) (rerelease):
The more I stare at this fun, old image...the more I think I want this hanging up in the house. Apparently this is a re-release of a movie called FIVE MINUTES TO LIVE. AIP picked it up, slapped the new, more exploitative name on it and came up with this far more interesting poster than the original release.
17: YOU:
I had forgotten I had gotten this one. It may not look like much, but I had been after this one for DECADES! It's an exploitation dream come true!
Fun old school-style poster for a so-so thriller from a no-budget studio who was trying to ride the coattails of Universal's INNER SANCTUM series years earlier.
15: HOTEL RESERVE:
Wow! Great poster art on this one. Very cool for that alone.
14: TARZAN AND THE HUNTRESS (rerelease):
A Weissmuller TARZAN poster...even though it's one of the Sol Lesser TARZAN's? Even though it is a rerelease?--YES! I will take it. GLADLY! Whoo hoo!
13: JUNGLE CRUISE:
A poster for a Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in my top poster list? While I'm not a fan of most of the action star's movies--and I haven't even seen JUNGLE CRUISE yet as I write this--this poster represents far more than a Dwayne Johnson movie. It's the return of painted art to sell a movie--and it is such a nice result. Really. I saw this poster and had to have it--despite having little interest in the film itself (although I do like the ride it is based on...).
12: MOTHRA:
For the longest time I thought I had one of these. I think I may have gotten confused with RODAN. Oh well. It's super to have this one sheet from the GODZILLA monster series. Whoo hoo!
11: QUEEN OF BLOOD:
Golly, it seems like I bought this ages ago--but no. I was just this year. This is such a cool AIP poster for such a so-so movie. I'd rush to the theaters if this poster showed up in theaters today. Zowie!
Oh my god! I cannot believe I finally actually have one of these blaxploitation gems! The film is supposed to be utter crap--but the poster? WOW!! A trash exploitation classic!
9: SPOOK CHASERS:
Wow! How delightful to come across this old school gem. So kitschy kool. Who-oo-oo!
8: THE INCUBUS (aka INCUBUS: IL POTERE DEL MALE) (Italian 2F):
WOW! Great spooky poster for this fright flick--much nicer than the US one sheet. LOVE it!
7: CRY OF THE WEREWOLF:
Even though this poster has some issues, I am thrilled to have scored this obscure (I'd never heard of it) old werewolf movie poster. It may not be Universal horror...but those are hard to find. These obscure old ones are almost as cool--and nearly as rare in some cases.
6: FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN (Military re-release):
Speaking of Universal horror... A military re-release of this classic monster mash? Twenty years ago, I would have turned my nose up at this---now I am dang thrilled to have it. Whoo hoo!
Wow! A collection of moviedom's best pre-80s horror icons on one poster! Too fab!
4:ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY (Half sheet):
Despite the size (I avoid half-sheets), this is a great score! It's got a voodoo zombie, skeletons, great verbiage, a wild title, and (Hello?) Bela Lugosi! YOWZA!
3: THE CURIOUS DR. HUMPP (LA VENGANZA DEL SEXO) (Argentinean):
What's not to love about this wild, bizarre-O poster? Soooo wonderfully weird. LOVE IT!!
2: EXORCISM (LE NOTTI DI SATANA) (Italian 2F):
Stunningly spooky and sinister art for this mostly pedestrian EXORCIST knockoff. Oh, I dig the movie--but the poster art is far better than the film deserves. Just---WOW!
1: RETURN OF THE FLY:
While the original movie is better than the sequel, RETURN OF THE FLY's poster is far superior than the original's one sheet. Yowza! And, yep! This is it. My favorite acquisition of the year. Whoo hoo! (Just BARELY beating out LE NOTTI DI SATANA/EXORCISM.)
How was 2021 for you? Here's to a Ring-A-Ding 2022!
Great top 20 list! I must've missed a couple of those the first time around. You definitely have many reasons to be pleased with those! You'll have to post follow-up pics of what makes it up on the walls.
Rockabilly777: It has been driving me crazy having all of my posters and empty frames. No time. I've got boxes all over and Christmas is coming. I'll start framing and hanging after the holidays. But--YES! I'll post pics! CHEERS!
Welcome back to the Shock-O-Rama Poster Show. And guess what? I am finally MOVED! I have new (to me) naked walls to fill up with my amazing posters. Hooray! My house is on a hillside and there is this one bedroom-sized room in the basement (It's not really a basement--but there's nothing down there except the garage--which I do not use--and this one room) that I hope to eventually transform into a home tiki bar. The stairway down to it, I intend to try and make look jungle-y with vines and tiki-esque decor. As a way to incorporate my love of movie posters with tiki, I plan on framing and hanging some of my jungle-themed posters in the stairway. Things, like some of my TARZAN posters or my recent ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY half sheet, or even my JUNGLE HEADHUNTERS one sheet or posters like HULA HULA will work. But I am getting way ahead of myself. That won't happen for quite a while yet. In the meantime, here is a look at my latest acquisitions:
THE WAYWARD BUS:
I'm the first to admit it. This new poster of mine is ugly. I really dislike the art. Why buy it then? Hello? It was cheap--duh--AND it is for a Jayne Mansfield movie (back in the late 50s, when she was still an A-lister) AND, as a bonus, it stars Joan Collins! Ha! Plus it is based on a John Steinbeck story (that I have not read, but...), whose work I greatly admire. Too bad all of those positive things are crammed into such a homely poster. I'm guessing the movie was a dud as well. This is one of the few with Jayne I have NOT been able to track down. (There is an out of print Blu-Ray, but it is CRAZY high. No thank you...)
THE BIRDS (Promo Mask):
I know... I know... This is NOT a poster. This may be as close as I ever get to an original THE BIRDS poster though at the rate poster prices keep going up. Jinkies! As it was, scoring this promo mask looked as if it would cost me an arm and a leg, too... and then one popped up fairly reasonably price and---SOLD! This is more than a promotional mask. It has a sweet little gimmick built in. Each mask is numbered on the back. If the box office was displaying the number on the mask, you got in free. The catch was you had to be wearing your mask to claim your prize. Ha! Can you imagine? This will proudly hang with other movie gimmicks if and when my stuff ever arrives from the move... Yes, as I write this, all of my stuff is STILL in moving Twilight Zone limbo. UGH!!!
LEGEND OF DINOSAURS AND MONSTER BIRDS (International one sheet):
O' this is a rare find. It's coming to me from Turkey, but originally hails from Japan and looks to want to be riding on the coattails of Toho's GODZILLA monster flicks and from the brief spat of dinosaur flicks from the late 60s/early 70s. To my knowledge, there was no US theatrical release (or, at least, theatrical posters). I've seen other posters for this in the past, but they were always in other languages. This one is in English. I watched it for a while and then snagged it.
THE SCORPION KING (movie props):
I certainly did not expect to win this. I bid on it, sure--but not a lot. I know this is a spin-off of THE MUMMY remake series from the 90s, but I'm not even sure I saw SCORPION KING. Ha! It is fun to own a real piece of a movie--although it would be better if it was a movie I was familiar with and really fond of, which would give the piece more of an emotional value. I think I own the series on DVD--and have always meant to get around to watching it. This will give me incentive to do so, I guess. I hope they don't suck...
THE SCORPION KING:
I scored the props, I might as well get the poster to hang next to them. Right? I may have one already--this movie was 20 years ago. Who remembers what they bought casually 20 years ago? It's NOT that exciting, but...
I am late to the SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE party. I have long had a one sheet for SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE 3--but had not seen the movies themselves until last summer. Sure they are all loosely connected (and really kind of campy crappy bad). I can see the cult appeal of them, though. While I am hoping to track down theatrical one sheets for Parts 1 & 2 to go with my Part 3, Part 2 was the one I liked (is that the right word?) the best. It was just so WTF with the inexplicable singing/dancing murderer and his killer (literally) guitar. It was like the MTV version of a slasher movie. I'll score the one sheet for this when I can find it---and send this off to auction if/when that ever happens.
FORCED ENTRY:
Wow! I finally got one of these. This is an early pornographic roughie about a Vietnam vet (who has continual flashbacks) who breaks into women's homes, rapes and terrorizes them before he kills them. It's a pretty unsettling thing to see now. Imagine back then? Laura Cannon is a forgotten porn star who is top-billed in this, but a young Harry Reems (under a different name) is the real star; the psycho vet who keeps imagining he is in 'Nam. This film was remade a few years later for a more mainstream audience and stars a young Tanya Roberts--but had very little of the grittiness (despite the porn factor) that made the original an underground hit and was quickly forgotten.
FORBIDDEN ZONE:
Wow! I don't believe I've ever seen a FORBIDDEN ZONE poster for sale before. I snatched this one up as soon as I saw it---despite the obvious wrinkling. It was only $15 plus postage. But how could I NOT get it? As much as I HATE linenbacking, I would seriously consider the process for this poster--unless someone knows a way to remove the wrinkles by another means?
THE BIRDS (Promo Mask):
Wait a minute! Didn't I just post this at the BEGINNING of this post? Yes--but no. This is ANOTHER copy. I decided that, to display this properly, I'd need to show BOTH sides---the mask and the whole promo thing on the back. Yahoo! I found another. Hooray!
LET'S MAKE IT LEGAL:
Here's a surprise pick up I did not expect at all...the poster for the charming early Marilyn Monroe flick LET'S MAKE IT LEGAL. It's got some flaws, but nothing I can't live with. I am delighted to have gotten this. Hooray!
And that's 10. I honestly didn't think this would post before 2022...but here we are. A last-minute bonus post for 2021. (There's always the possibility of ANOTHER post before the end of the year, but I doubt it.) Have a spectacular holiday season. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Joyful Kwanzaa...and here is to health, happiness, and awesome poster finds in 2022. I'll see you next year. CHEERS!
Merry Christmas, my main man! Hopefully Santa will bring you a cool poster or two this holiday season. Thanks for visiting the thread. You rock. Ho ho ho!
Comments
I wasn't. Oops...
End of Part 1
WILD GUITAR (Alternative day-glo style):
CHEERS!
End of Part 1
Part 2:
WHAT WAITS BELOW:
I know nothing about this flick. I'm guessing it's bad (which would not be a surprise at all). I did like the clever use of the stalagmites and stalactites of the cave in the artwork to suggest teeth in a frightening mouth. It was cheap. Eh...
End of Part 2
KING KONG (1968 re-release?):
I came across one of these a couple of years ago on eBay.
Great poster acquisition. A rare Australian daybill image and the only one I have ever seen.
I have viewed this film which was very slow going to sit through. The best thing from memory was the Mexican scenery.
Here is a handy checklist to help tell eMoviePoster.com apart from all other major auctions!
End of Part 1:
Part 2:
FINAL DESTINATION (lenticular):
Ha!
Part 3:
THE CRIPPLED MASTERS:
I hope your Halloween was spook-tacular!
CHEERS!
Good luck with the start of the move today. I hope all goes well and smoothly.
16: INNER SANCTUM:
Fun old school-style poster for a so-so thriller from a no-budget studio who was trying to ride the coattails of Universal's INNER SANCTUM series years earlier.
15: HOTEL RESERVE:
Wow! Great poster art on this one. Very cool for that alone.
14: TARZAN AND THE HUNTRESS (rerelease):
A Weissmuller TARZAN poster...even though it's one of the Sol Lesser TARZAN's? Even though it is a rerelease?--YES! I will take it. GLADLY! Whoo hoo!
11: QUEEN OF BLOOD:
9: SPOOK CHASERS:
Wow! How delightful to come across this old school gem. So kitschy kool. Who-oo-oo!
8: THE INCUBUS (aka INCUBUS: IL POTERE DEL MALE) (Italian 2F):
WOW! Great spooky poster for this fright flick--much nicer than the US one sheet. LOVE it!
5: THE HORROR SHOW (International):
Rick: Ribbit! Ribbit!
SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II (Video):
