Thought MrP you might like to see the following impressive Australian newspaper advertisement placed for The Hitch-Hiker in the Sun newspaper Sydney on Wednesday 15 July 1953.
Thanks Monster! I couldn’t believe it when I found it…A must have!
I saw that you've been collecting since 1977...roughly as long as me. You mentioned $1 for a window card... Ahh, the days of cheap posters--before it got to be such a crazy expensive hobby. I remember seeing the original STAR WARS for the princely sum of $25 back in the day at a comic book store. I PASSED on it (as I was just NOT into STAR WARS) and ended up buying other posters at the same place (LOGAN'S RUN, CARRIE, FLESH GORDON, etc.) and ignoring the STAR WARS. I could soooooo KICK myself now. Oh well. (I also didn't bother with the vintage horror movies--dumb me! At the time I thought they were just TOO old. I wanted things that were new and exciting. I was such a FOOL...)
Congratulations. Both are impressive posters. I particularly like The Black Doll. Do you have any other posters from The Crime Club series?
‘’In 1937, Universal
Pictures made a deal with Crime Club and were granted the right to select
four of their yearly published novels to adapt into films.[1] The unit responsible for these films was producer Irving
Starr with former film editor Otis
Garrett often directing.[1] Eleven films were made in the series between 1937 and 1939.[2] The first film in the series was The Westland Case, based on the Jonathan
Latimer novel Headed for a
Hearse.[3]’’ ( From
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )
''A Crime Club Mystery. In 1937, Universal had acquired the rights
to select 4 books from the publisher of the pulp whodunits' annual output of 52
novels. This was the second one produced in the deal. A total of 11 Crime Club
mysteries would be filmed. The Crime Club deal ended with the release of The Witness Vanishes (1939)
in September, 1939.'' ( IMBd trivia )
''The second one'' mentioned by IMDb refers to The Black Doll ( 1938 ).
Within this link it mentions that there were only eight official films in the Universal The Crime Club series, and not eleven as stated by both Wikipedia and IMDb.
Thanks for the comments everyone, most appreciated!
Hondo, I love the crime club series… Been collecting paper on it for a few years… I have a complete set of lobby cards for The Lady in the Morgue and a One Sheet for Danger on the Air, I have no idea where they are…but I was able to find my complete set for The Black Doll.
The title card for the set has the same design that appears on the Half Sheet.

Impressive cards. I appreciate your love of the series and your keenness to add to your collection of The Crime Club posters. I imagine not the easiest of paper to locate.
I love the Daybill design! The Last Express is mighty impressive! While searching for my other crime club material, I ran across this Black Doll reissue Three Sheet.
Thanks to both of you! Rockabilly, no need to plan a home robbery… Front door is unlocked, come on in… Just make sure you don’t wrinkle or tear any of the posters when you take them out of the frames…leave the frames…I need those…
