Re: We want it scary...but not TOO scary!
Australian film advertising guidelines from the censorship department were inconsistent when one looks back on posters printed up to the 1970's. Firearms of all shapes and sizes were never a problem in having them being depicted, on film posters. Axes and hooks were also allowed as seen following with the Killer's Kiss and My Gun Is Quick 1950's daybill examples.
The biggest problem with censorship was the depiction of threatening knives which had originally appeared on U.S.A. artwork, but then were on the Australian posters altered to just showing clenched fists. The odd examples managed to be drawn and ended up in the market place though.

Re: The Comedy Quiz
It is indeed Three Amigos. Your mention of the short lived Western. Quiz which I had high hopes for was sadly only in play for less than a month in September 2015 due to no interest.. I have since on the odd occasion in the past included a western film title in the Classic Films Quiz thread, and I do intend in the future to continue to do this.dedeposter said:C12 - could that just as easily be in a Westerns Quiz? is it The Three Amigos (1986)

Re: Rare Australian Posters Of Australian Films
A Long John Silver (1954) rare daybill and an even rarer one sheet poster.
Rod Taylor, billed as Rodney Taylor in the film appearis above as a blind pirate. This took place just before he began his Hollywood acting period.

Australian daybill printed for the re-release of Long John Silver, with the new replaced title of Long John Silver Returns To Treasure Island. This film was re-released in the U.S.A. in the late 1960s, and it would appear re-released in Australia in the 1970's due to the post 1971 newly introduced G in a triangle censorship rating.

Re: A Do You Know Your Classic Movies Quiz.
Love this movie and I would LOVE to own that daybill!
Re: A Do You Know Your Classic Movies Quiz.
Correct answer for C671 and well solved. Originally released in the U.S.A. in 1951 as being titled Ace In The Hole, but due to poor early box office returns promptly the title was changed to be that of The Big Carnival. A great Billy Wilder film.theartofmovieposters said:671 The Big Carnival or Ace in the hole or something like that! You know what I am talking about
