UNBELIEVABLE! 21 years ago, when I moved my auction business entirely online, I met a couple, Ina and David Steiner, who had just started a site devoted to online auctions called https://www.ecommercebytes.com/

I found (and have continued to find over the years since) that their site was one of the only online sites to provide the "straight dope" about online selling. Naturally this included much negative information about eBay, as the auction site did all they could to keep raising fees on their sellers, while adding insane regulations to being a seller. I left Bay in 2007 after 330,000 auctions there, and ecommercebytes covered my departure honestly and fairly.

NOW, this has happened, and it is something NO ONE could possibly have expected from ANY company. The couple referred to in the article below (although they are unnamed) ARE Ina and David Steiner, and I guarantee reading this will turn your stomach.

There are many links to eBay auctions on VMP. Unfortunately if you provide a link to an ebay listing you are wasting your time. eBay removes the listings after a short period of time so if you click on the links all you get is:

"We looked everywhere. Looks like this page is missing. If you still need help, visit our help pages".

So, what happens if you find out that you purchased something that was misrepresented eg posters listed in the thread "Buyer Beware"? You click on the link and the listing has vanished so you can't check the description or photo. It also means that some comments on this forum become meaningless.

If you check a listing on emovieposter or Heritage it is there forever for all to see. eBay is effectively hiding past listings so you cant go back and check on what you purchased. I know that the forum has been very quiet in recent times but I would be interested to hear what others think about the fact that eBay hides completed listings from view.

Former movie poster collector and lawyer Mel ran a wonderful website exposing a lot of the charlatans in our hobby, alas he collects no more but his legacy is a great resource and information on many scumbags in the poster collecting world. Here is another:

Randy Poling does business as “Bradburied” on eBay. Although most of his posters for sale are true originals, he belongs in the Hall of Shame because he sells several posters as “originals” that the movie poster community believes are bootlegs, i.e. unauthorized posters made using the same printing plate as the original.

In some of the bootleg listings on eBay Bradburied does disclose that the poster at issue “may” be a bootleg. For others no disclosure is provided. While these bootlegs are physically attractive and very similar to the originals, they are distinguishable from originals, have little to no value, and cannot easily be resold. Therefore, any one who buys one of the bootlegs is stuck with it and has been ripped off.

Below are some of the bootlegs that Bradburied sells on eBay (with April 2012 screenshots and links to authentications).

(1) Bradburied sells the well-known “hairy belt” bootleg of Star Wars Style A as an “original”:

REMEDIES

Although most of the posters that Bradburied sells are true originals, movie poster collectors should avoid doing business with him because he sells several well-known bootlegs as originals and has ripped-off many Ebay customers who have bought his bootlegs and later discovered they are essentially worthless and unsellable.

If you have bought a bootleg from him, you should:

First, leave negative feedback on Ebay within 60 days of the sale

Second, file a complaint with Ebay.

Third, demand a refund. If he refuses to give one, file a complaint with PayPal within forty-five days of the sale. (Note the time limit is very short.)

Fourth, post your issues with Bradburied on the movie poster forums, including www.vintagemoviepostersforum.com, to help spread the word of his bootleg sales.

Hi, I am relatively new to Movie Poster collecting and am a little sceptical on purchasing unless I am convinced something is not potentially a "repo" or unlicensed copy.

I am just wondering, are there many fakes out there of modern titles such as Rogue One, The Force awakens, The Last Jedi as well as The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones & Revenge of the Sith.

If so, is there any reference site I can look to to determine what may not be an original Poster of the above Titles. I am aware truckloads of fakes exist of the first three Movies of the 70's & 80's. I may only collect Australian Daybill's and one sheets of the first three movies as I have been informed there are no known fakes or copies of these posters, and I reside in Melbourne Australia.

Any advice anyone can give in relation to the above would be greatly appreciated, or can a reputable dealer be recommended to me that has titles such as the above that are legitimate and at reasonable prices.

Thanks for your time. Cheers ROB

Well it was meant to be a mint condition quad (this was in the description) and probably was until it was sent in the post as the ends have been damaged due to moving around in the tube. I kindly asked the seller to package it in a particular way - rolled in kraft paper, rolled smaller than the inside of the tube - pretty much EMP style. They assured me they were a poster collector and everything would be alright. Well they used a strong tube, but there was only newspaper on either end of the poster and gaps between this and the end of the tube - so it danced around in the tube all the way from the UK

So I really don't want the poster, I paid for a mint one and don't want anything less.

Ironically I bought from the same seller a year ago except they were using a different ebay id (same paypal address) - I also received a damaged poster. But I just excepted a $10 refund and the paypal case was closed (I basically did not have a clue on what to do)
The seller has good feedback (there were a couple of negatives on the old ID and some neutral) so either I am to fussy or just out of luck.

Any guidance much appreciated team! Obviously I will contact the seller and state my concerns but do I

1) Click on Return button in Purchase History
2) When do I raise a Paypal case and how should I proceed with it ?

I would like to return the item for a full refund (including original postage and return postage)

I found a poster on Ebay. It's listed at 27X41. I see the same poster on other sites - they are all listed at 27X40. Is it possible for a poster to be issued at 2 different sizes? The film came out in 1985, around the time sizes changed. I want to check before purchasing. The gentleman said he will double check the size and let me know. If it ends up in fact being 27X41, should I still buy?
