bought at auction. help?

I purchased a banner? type movie poster at an auction today but have no idea if it has value. I haven't unrolled it to measure it because I don't have room but I'm guessing it's about 30 ft long so a marquee poster? It's for Walt Disney's "That Darn Cat". It was in a lot with another ad banner dated 1966, so I assume it's from the 1966 version. Can anyone tell me about it?

  • Made from paper? I'm not quite sure.

Hate to say this, we'll need a pic of it.

Yep - even a portion of it would help
  • Well 24 sheets the largest size I know of are only 20' long...  Not sure what you've got yet.
  • That's great!
  • I'm trying to upload a closeup but photobucket is fighting me about it....

The material appears to be a very light canvas. Its ripped at one end and there are loose threads. The text is painted. You can see the brush strokes.

  • imageThere! Finally.
  • It's very possible that it is simply a local theatre produced canvas + paint banner

Regardless it is a cool bit of history

  • Clearly not standard NSS issue.  Maybe for a local premier or something... Nice!

Value??? It for That Darn Cat...

The most one has sold for is about $150 in any format.  If you can track down the theater and it turns out to be a famous theater then you might dip into two categories.  But overall I can't see the value being more than $300 IMO...

If it was for Star Wars or BAT, much, much more.  It's size also minimizes it's value ceiling - you would have to find a buyer that loves that movie and has a warehouse to put it in.

Orrrr someone who really, really loves cats

    (Like Matt)

  • LOL....well the cat lover would be me. I actually bought it because #1 I work with a kitten rescue and "damn cat" is uttered a minimum of 100 times a day at my house, and #2 I DO live in a warehouse....it's an old store converted into an apartment with huge high ceilings and no deviding walls. I'm thrilled with it and for the $22.50 I paid for it, it's going up on my wall!

Thanks for all your help guys!

As good a reason as I can think of to own it and display it! Well done! Besides, there are no cat lovers here

  • Ha! Thanks for the link! I'm currently fostering 10 kittens for the local shelter. They live in my laundry room and it's like being swarmed by bees when I walk in there....
  • I have two Darn cats...they either sleep or talk.

Tami, you can definitely say you have a one of a kind banner and it's cool too!
