Chuck's Collection

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and wanted to share the collection I have and everything that I am adding my collection based on my interests. For those of you that don't know my interests are pressbooks, press kits, lobby cards, heralds and any type of paper product/epherma related to the advertising, marketing and sale of movies. This includes exhibitor and distributor paperwork and anything related to the NSS. While this doesn't fall in line with posters I hope you enjoy looking at my collection, which isn't that large at the moment. I started purchasing items and collecting based on some of my favorite films growing up.

My first post deals with a large box of random stuff that I acquired through an acquaintance who picked items from a closed theatre in Concord, NH. There is a bunch of random stuff but I'll post a few things to get started. I'm not sure if any of these items are worth anything or have resale value. If anyone is familiar with these items please let me know as I'm always interested in learning.

Advertising "Covers"
I'm not sure if these have any resale value or are desired from other collectors but I find them interesting.

  • Nice bit of history there Chuck, lot harder to find too I imagine.

    and Welcome...
  • Heck, we haven't seen any sort of these collectables before. Keepém coming Chuck!
  • What Matt said.  I like what I've seen and look forward to seeing more.
  • I do have some of these, so find them very interesting, keep them coming..
  • I love NSS stuff.  Just picked up another annual meeting photo the other day.  Was that your post about the newsletter on Facebook today?

Awesome man! I'd love to get an annual meeting photo but I think they are a little pricey for me right now. It probably was me that posted about the "En Ess Ess" magazine. I'm looking to get an issue but it appears they are hard to find. I'd love to see your NSS material. Can you post some pics?
  • Welcome again, Chuck! Agree with Charlie, I love to read/learn about old NSS history.  He posted an NSS mtg photo awhile back and it was really cool. You should search the site for it. I've heard stories that NSS exchange posters were sold for lbs of the price of paper!

Love the paper you've posted so far! If you can take clearer picts of the letters to read that'd be great!

  • I had started a NSS thread a year or so ago feel free to fill it up... I added the new photo and another cool NSS poster I picked up.

National Screen Service (NSS) Booking Sheet Book and Ledger
This is the NSS booking sheet book that would hold one of the booking sheets from above. The theatre owner decided to include their own notebook for their movie schedule. As you can see it is for 1945-46.

United Artists Coming Attraction Fold Outs
Here are some UA Coming Attraction fold out advertisements. One of them included Some Like It Hot.

  • Great insight to behind the scenes Chuck

    Very cool!!! :plus_one:
  • So you were the one that beat me on that booking book.  Figured my $101 bid would have taken it home...

Sorry Charlie hopefully no hard feelings.
  • Nah...  It's a great piece - glad it went to someone who will appreciate it!
  • Wow these are fascinating and exciting.
  • Allied Artists Request for Bid

    MGM Booking Confirmation Slip

20th Century Fox Bid Offer Letter

  • Very cool, Chuck!

It doesn't list any prices. Is that normal for a "bid slip?"
  • Good question. I have no idea :)
  • This is my favorite thread for ages.  What a fascinating area of collecting.
  • Chuck, I see you collect pressbooks too. I am always on the lookout and have a huge collection, maybe you might have some extras or duplicates you might want to trade contact me anytime.  Rob
