Two other daybill posters Aub. designed whilst at W.E.Smith were Sailor Of The King ( 1953 ) and the original full colour version of Bitter Springs ( 1950 ). The bad news is no images have yet to surface to the best of my knowledge. Love to see his work he did on these daybills. Somewhere someone must have a copy of these posters and hopefully images will surface sooner than later.

Wil has just included the above long unsighted Aub Mosely designed  daybill image to the RIP Albert Kallis thread.

These are the three daybills Aub Moseley worked on at the same period of time on the same large sheet.

Now to be seen grouped together for the first time,

  • The other confirmed Aub Moseley profuced daybill image.

Still searching for an image of the original Bitter Springs daybill that he designed while at at W.E.Smith.

I had a long conversation with Aub Moseley before he passed away and we talked about his artwork. He was quite vague about specific posters that featured his art. Bear in mind that he worked on posters over 60 years ago and he didn't retain any of his work so it is understandable that he couldn't remember specific titles. He recalled "Passionate Summer" and "A Night to Remember" as two posters that he definitely designed and there were others that he was "fairly sure about" or he thought "might have been" his work but he couldn't be sure. He definitely had a distinctive style but he never signed anything so unfortunately, accurately identifying his work is very difficult as there were a number of other artists for W.E.Smith and Burton at the time. In my opinion, we need to be careful about saying that a particular poster was definitely designed by Aub Moseley without proof. It's a pity that records of the artist's work were not kept.

The article about Aub was moved here ...

News - Moviemem Original Movie Posters - Aub Moseley one of our great Australian Movie Poster Artists
In John's published article  Aub Moseley mentioned to John that he couldn't remember specific titles of films that he had designed, but he definitely remembered working on Passionate Sumer, A Night To Remember and A Certain Smile.

I recently noticed that the Passionate Summer daybill was printed by Chromo Print which would have been in 1958. The Australian one sheet was printed by Robert Burton in 1958, the year Aub is credited as starting work there. As the Passionate Summer was printed at Chromo Print there in no way Aub could have designed this poster. Perhaps he designed the Australian one sheet and that may be what he remembers doing,

When I spoke to Aub on the telephone several times and I asked him about posters he had designed he couldn't remember any titles that he was 100% certain about designing. He was well into his '80's with memory problems so so this is understandable.

Although Aub may have designed the daybills for the following A Night To Remember and A Certain Smile daybills, along with possibly also the above Passionate Summer one sheet, there is no conclusive proof to back this up. I think we can only say that he may have designed there daybills .

Aub also mentioned to John that he had worked on the Jungle JIm series at W.E. Smith. This again may have been the case, but even if he did  this no specific posters are known that were credited to him. A number of the titles in the series were designed after Aub had left W.E, Smuith and was living overseas.
