The Wizard Of Oz Trivia

The original children's book The Wonderful  Wizard Of Oz, was written by L. Frank Baum and published in 1900, from which the 1925 and 1939 The Wizard Of Oz films and many other film versions were adapted. Earlier on in his life Baum was thought to have written two racists editorials for his newspaper calling for the extermination of Native Americans. In 2006 , two of Baum's descendants apologized to the Sioux Nation for the editorials. I had never read about this story previously. Has anyone else been aware of this information ?

  • I recall something controversial but didn't recall details. Personally, I don't really get Wizard of Oz.  I know as a movie person, you are obligated to like it but other than it's historical value, it is not something I pine to watch every year.
  • It's a musical. ...so can't really fault you there.
But seriously I made myself watch it with my girls yesterday actually and my oldest loved it.  Garland and Co really are brilliant in it.  I can't see myself watching it over and over but with this one I can see the appeal it has to so many.

I'm no star wars fan but  :open_mouth:
  • The Wizard of Oz ad, blocks  H & are J faithful to the original film, but G, for some reason they had to present a much older looking Judy image from Meet Me In St. Louis ( 1945 ).

Uh, these are pieces of advertising paper.  That's their purpose.  Our strange hobby isn't even on anyone's radar.
