While this may be true, the software comes with it's own set of Badges and Points system so they're here to stay and for the most part they are awarded automatically by the forum's software based on each person's actions eg posting a comment, adding a picture, signing in and so on

It means you have to be better than the number two guy, and what gratification is there in that? He's a loser and that’s why he's number two - and everyone knows now that is you.
