Needless to say Mark has done an incredible job on something which might have just hit the bin...as with Charlie and his colossal efforts on the Ten Commandments daybill, I am so impressed with the skills of these 'ahem' amateur backers...Those sexy legs will proudly grace the walls above my desk in the next swap out. I'm too chicken to touch anything!
I can't thank Mark enough for all his efforts. I forgot how terrible it was before! What an absolute stunner!
And I am glad that you had an opportunity to try out new things and learn some skills/gain more knowledge in the process.
Thanks all for the good words. Silk Stockings was certainly a challenge having never tackled stains this bad. Learned a great deal and had fun in the process! Appreciate Ves rolling the dice.
I'm also looking forward to the next update on the Ten Commandments! That's been a fun & educational transformation to watch!
During this relaxing Sunday afternoon, I'm focusing on one of my favorite movies & drinking a cold one while the in-house artist labors over a mustard yellow....or Naples Yellow to be exact....
Ohhhh....Rope! Filmed in 12 min stretches I believe in real time. Wonderful movie!
Yes, she does! It allows her complete concentration away from the kiddos-I drink a few cold ones and shield her from outside distractions for a few hours....she sees the purple in the black much better than me....
And get your wife a trestle so she doesn't hurt her back!
Hmmm....that amber liquid looks nice! Wonder if it's served up here in the States?.... *yeah, I need to find some sort of "space saver"/foldable easel for her to work with....@Charlie? Any "do-it-yourself" ideas?
Thrill Of It All-cut down & trimmed as well. * it does seem using minimal paste when lying poster down on Masa helps a great deal with fold lines. It may be these daybills, but no fold lines on these two posters had to be burnished flat.
Closeups of top & bottom show tattering of paper. At first glance I wasn't going to bleach, but the small dark spots convinced me to treat the paper with a light bleaching.
The wash process went well and the short/mild bleaching did a good job at removing some of the toning & dark spots on the bottom border. •On the wash table---
Letting the wet poster dry out for 15 or so---almost ready for the wheat paste and laying down on the Masa.
Minutes after the poster has been layed down on the Masa, it stands drying. Minor touch up with pencils will address some of the broken paper along the top and bottom borders, and other small chips. * odd about this poster and coloring---it appears there is very slight yellow staining above & just left of O'Brien's hand and around his shoulder-but from other copies I've looked at it is part of the poster design?
Finished this up the other day. Not a great deal of pencil resto needed, but the color matching-especially on the fluorescent?yellow's & pink's was tough....

If you are going to save someone's legs, Cyd's (5)million dollar legs were well worth the effort

One of my all time favourite Hitchcock's...along with Rope, it gets a regular viewing in this house!
Does the in-house artist enjoy doing the restoration?

Poster drying out prior to wheat paste app & backing.
Poster backed & drying. No touch will be necessary prior to cutting down & trimming.
It's been an amazing transition over the years.
I think you know what I'm talking about Mark.
Job well done Mark! Job well done!
Ok. Cut down and trimmed Silk Stockings.
Thrill Of It All-cut down & trimmed as well.

Before-front
Back
Anyway, it laid down well and will receive minimal fold line resto before heading to the framer.
A very cool Daybill I backed this weekend. Nothing to major to address on front or backside. Toning showing more on bottom border and on backside.
to treat the paper with a light bleaching.
Backside/bottom. Grease pencil & more dark spots to be bleached out.
