June 2018

Happy June, y'all! (not part of my usual lingety, I just co-opted it from my southern neighbors :)  )

Anyhow, welcome to probably the least exciting start to a recent acquisitions thread ever! Today I give you a hand painted half sheet I purchased for 2 reasons: first, the title amused me and I thought it would be fun in the poster lair at some point, and second, because it was a whoppin' three bucks. :)

naked paradise half sheet

Next, I'm sure many will question my sanity for buying this one, as it's in terrible condition, but it was on my "keep an eye out for one" list, and this one was a significantly higher five bucks from the same seller. I'm pretty sure I can patch it back together to satisfactorily display it in the lair, however, so I proudly present to you a well traveled Allotment Wives 1 sheet:

  • Fantastic start.  I love the Naked Paradise poster.  I am sure it will fantastic in the lair.
  • Nefarious, never seen that word on a poster...cool!!!
  • Love Naked Paradise, reminds me of an old UK theatrical bill with its basic (title/star) format.

  • Nice start to June, Rock! Naked Paradise has nice colors & well written! As for Kay Francis, she's lookin quite nefarious! Lastly, who could turn down a Monogram 1Sht! :plus_one:
  • With a quickie weekend post from me, let's celebrate everything OZ and rock a couple daybills!

A title that's not particularly rare, but I didn't have it in any format yet, so a db will do nicely. Diana Dors being naughty yet again:

    unholy wife daybill front

This one I had never seen before. The artwork isn't quite what the US paper has, but I like the bold, sensationalistic title, and it'll go well with the other youth-gone-wrong stuff I have:

  • Daybills - a wise choice at any time :D
  • Juvenile jungle is new to me too, and cool
  • There seems to be a lot of bad girls at your place. I like it!
  • Thanks, guys! Yep, the rock-o-mansion is definitely a home for would-be wayward wimmins, and like the track from The Cramps cd Stay Sick says, All Women Are Bad!
(okay, not really, but it’s still a good song :) )
  • Look at me following Rock's daybills with no daybills :o But I finally managed time to snap some pics...

One to add to my 3 poster strong Victor Cornelius window card collection ;)

  • Congrats Chris. The Hunted is a ripper!
  • Great finds Rock & Matt, nice to see you added a couple of Aussies at the end!!  =)

Myself, well this beauty finally landed on my doorstep 5 minutes ago! The repeatedly opened/resealed tube didn't fill me with joy, but thankfully the force is strong with my Star Wars 3 Sheet thanks to Studio C!

  • Congrats Wil!  So did it sustain any damage after being "inspected"?

Seems you got very, very lucky with it being opened and still reaching you!
  • Great colors in that unholy wife Rock ! Congrats!

More noir goodness Chris, well done!

Wonderful star wars 3 sheet Will!! Glad all landed ok and am also interested if their was any damage during inspection. It will be a beauty framed on the wall. Might be one to go all out on proper framing, probably a poster to enjoy for life.

I'm also saving for a special star wars poster!

I know! They didn't repack it with any real care or bother to secure the end cap that they removed (they ended up just jamming it in place by forcing it back into the tube itself).

I feared the worst so photographed the ripped packing paper before carefully unrolling. The only points of any note are some dirty fingerprints on the top right border (I guessing there were no hand wash stations at the customs depot?), I'm quietly confident an eraser may get rid of those.

So in all I'm very happy with it and once Invahoe is up in a couple of weeks, this beauty is next!

Fantastic Wil! Glad this wonderful poster made it safely to your corner of the globe! Not sure how customs manages to inspect so intrusively, but looks all good!
  • That'll look awesome framed Wil!
  • Cheers Mark, been wanting this beast up for a while. I may need to keep it apart from the (tiny in comparison) daybill though!

  • Holy mountains of posters, Canuckman! They all have their own points of awesomeness, but since I'm yet to get my paws on any paper for Bunco Squad, I'm particularly envious that you snagged not one, but TWO styles, ya bastid!
Wow, Wil! I'm looking forward to seeing pics of those 2 giant beauties on the wall! I loves me some big posters, and those are spectacular examples!
  • Cheers Rock, I'll definitely be putting 3 Sheets on hold for a while, I've got the space, but the framing costs eat into my poster buying!

The Propstore have some beautiful Quads on offer at the moment, if it wasn't for needing to frame a tonne of stuff, the Ice Cold in Alex quad would definitely get some action from me. The Dambusters looks amazing, but I reckon that'll end up going for a small fortune!
  • Good stuff people!
  • @Chris

Great stuff! so much to like; Sleeping City, Shakedown, both Bunco Squad's are wonderful, and Action North Atlantic is meant be framed and displayed! Great collection!

  • Another quickie post from me. Definitely hard to follow Wil's Star Wars and general 3 sheet goodness, and the Egyptian film noir god's always impressive smattering of enviableness. That being said, these were weekend scores, all on the cheap.

I loves me some early exploitation/sexploitation when I can find it, and here's a lobby that will do nicely:

    what price innocence lobby card

I don't have any paper for this title yet, but I'm kinda holding out for a half sheet, as it has the best tagline for my tastes. Anyhoo, I thought until the planets align and a half sheet appears, I'll frame up a lobby or two:

    teenage crime wave lobby cards

And lastly, the taglines make this lobby. It's those *&%#$ trouble causing, hooligan kids again:

    careless years lobby card
