Victory Publicity

Alright...we've covered basically all the other major Aussie printers in other threads (OK maybe we do need one for RKO/Simmons ;) ) but how about some discussion on Victory Publicity.  Like Richardson with Paramount was Victory exclusive to Warner Bros?  They certainly printed some great Aussie paper!

  • Wow! I don't own a Daybill yet, but those you posted Chris are motivating! Nice! :-bd
  • And just like that I found a Victory for a non-Warner Bros release:

The answer is Victory wasn't exclusive to Warner Bros. Haven't time to reply in detail but will do so at a later date but will be interested in what other people post in the meantime.

  • Yes - the Barefoot Contessa shows that they at least handled a UA release as well...
  • Somewhere in your poster pile Chris you may find an RKO poster.

  • When I first started looking at all the Aussie paper, with the triangle or circle rating I thought it seemed to "interfere" with the poster design/artwork/flow. I've done a 180! Now I can see that part of the design is where "they" decide to place it...Great stuff above! \m/

I think most Daybillers almost don't see them now

I would imagine so, it was the My Dream/Yours, but esp the Monte Carlo Story that caught my eye as to placement...

    Superb!

  • Love the soldiers at btm of Cadet Girl, cool! Color of Martha Scott dress/hat great! More of the "under floorboards collection" I presume?... :)
  • edited May 2015
Yep, more from the 'Under the Floorboards' collection  ;)
  • Good stuff! ...it's fun to see 'em! Really like the 30s-50s artwork.
  • Hey David , out of interest how many posters were stacked on top of each other under the floorboards? For insulation right?
  • edited May 2015
Yes they were laid out for insulation, I don't know how many were stacked on top of each other - almost all were saved (a few went into the bin at my house they were well past gone).

The owners (3 siblings) each kept a poster each (nothing special, just ones that the liked the look of), some have since been auctioned on Bidll, some were sent to NFSA as a donation, some you've seen others you have not, some have appeared here, others are in private collection(s) and there may be a few more perhaps to appear at the next major Bidll event.
  • Oh, what was sent to the NSFA?  Pics?

    See the WE Smith thread
  • Oh Nice!  Did you keep any for yourself?  I would have been greedy and kept at least one of each...
