Your thought is correct. Homicidal from 1961. Joan Marshall who was credited in this film for whatever reason as being Jean Artless is the actress who appears in my posted knife wielding image.
The BluRay, like all recent Warner Archive presentations was amazing. Probably looked better than when it was first exhibited, also included a commentary track (I always listen to those).
Good to know. Another one to add to the list. I added it to my want list on Amazon. I can’t justify paying 40 bucks for a blu ray. Will wait till it comes on sale.
I'd suggest waiting until Black Friday, also subscribe to MovieZyng emails, they're actually the prime distributor for Warner Archive titles, and usually have a birthday sale for the archive.
But I just checked, and Amazon have The Beast With Five Fingers BluRay for US$12.99 (but only for delivery within the US), if you know someone who lives there and could send it on to you.
I am thinking that working on the above image alone that 317 will prove to be too difficult to be able for anyone to find the answer for it. A clue then to hopefully assist you to come up with the answer is oriental.
Well then, it's the "Return of Dr FuManchu" (1930) - I watched them both on the Kino BluRay recently, knew it was one of them.
Sorry to disappoint you Peter but it isn't that film either. You are so close with your thinking though that I am so surprised that you haven't yet come up with the correct answer.
Ah! The mask of fu manchu (1932) - with Boris Karloff - another Warner Archive BluRay that was recently restored.
We got there in the end to finding the answer for 317, The pre code film has been called ''nasty''by many as it contains sadistic torture, sexual situations and outright racism. ( Everyones / Trove original Australian newspaper advertisements). .Note on the image above on the right hand side the downgradng of the billing of Boris Karloff.
