Buy it or no?

Get a lot of emails, someone wrote to tell me they have an original 1957 Movie poster "The prince and the showgirl"

It measures 30cm x 40cm, it's framed but not stuck to the backing, the owner says it's in very good condition except a single fold line, the owner paid $350 for it and wondered if I might like it and what I might offer for it. Your thoughts?

Here's one picture (I have a second picture to share).

  • I would want to actually see it out of the frame before making an offer. You can never tell what the framer might have done to secure the poster until it is out of the frame.
  • Check out the images of this  poster on eMovieposter.com to see what was paid for this Belgium poster design in the past.
  • After the word Technicolor and just to the top right of the last letter R which is hard to see on the image is a small copyright logo with the letter R in a circle. Directly under this there appears to be something written. Would you mind David having a look at at your image and perhaps your second one to see if you can make out what the wording is?

That's the only image I have, the other image is the back. However, I think you will find that is light reflection.

There's one thing everyone is missing here.
  • There are also three in the HA past auction records and none have any writing below the R.

That is correct, but there is one issue - I have already mentioned

A fact is the Warner Bros. logo is the plain WB version which was the style used on Belgium film posters in 1957. Some other Belgium examples include Band Of Angels, Sayonara, A Face In The Crowd. The Black Scorpian and The Pajama Game to name a few but I have many other titles as well.

Is the size of the poster the issue ?

    Yes!
  • And one other thing...which I didn't divulge but makes me suspect (despite the current owner paying $350) that this is not an original movie poster (albeit just a teeny weeny tiny bit).
  • Clue #3 it's not an original as suggested by the seller (who no doubt bought it on that basis in the first place)

This is printed on the other side.
