Watching Chicken Little...for about the 10th time this week. My little boy loves it! ...and I must admit for an animated movie, it's one of the best I've watched!
Lawerence-is that the HBO series based on Pacific World War II events?
Yes it is. Shot in Australia in Melbourne and Queensland Australia. Top notch cast including Rami Malek who is receiving excellent reviews for his performances in this years television series Mr. Robot which by all re[ports is excellent.
Cool! I've only see a few scenes from it but imagine it is excellent. I have Band of Brothers on ddv which was the precursor to the Pacific, is set in the European theater & focuses on the 101st Airborne paratroopers.
Both I believe are executive produced by Hanks/Spielberg & based on the books by the late historian Stephen E. Ambrose.
Band Of Brothers was based on a 1993 non-fiction book by historian Stephen E. Ambrose of the same name. As far as I can see Ambrose had no connection with The Pacific at all. There were six credited writers for The Pacific plus material used based on books by Eugene Sledge & Robert Leckie who are two of the main characters appearing in the film and by Chuck Tatum.
Good article David, had heard that Hugh Ambrose had passed, hadn't read from causes.
@ Lawrence-yes, Stephen E's son, Hugh was the author of the book, The Pacific. But he used a great deal of his father's research to finish the pacific what his father could not finish as he succumbed to cancer in 2002. Hugh was a project consultant for the hbo miniseries.
The miniseries, The Pacific would never have existed had it not been for the success of Ambrose's, Band of Brothers, released in 1992.
Ambrose wrote a few books on the history of World War II, as well as a few others...Undaunted Courage, Citizen Soldiers, D-Day: June 6th, 1944, Rise to Globalism, Crazy Horse and Custer, Ike's Spies, Halleck: Lincoln's Chief of Staff, and Eisenhower and Berlin: Decision to Halt at the Elbe River...to name a few.
There seems to be some confusion regarding The Pacific mini series being based on the Hugh Ambrose book. All you have mentioned Mark is true but I wish to state that the book The Pacific was written as a tie in book released the same year and although some participants featured in the mini series appear in the book other featured people not in the series are in different areas in the Pacific theatre of war. Hugh Ambrose as far as I can see received no writing credits for The Pacific. You seem to know a lot about this subject Mark so I hope to hear back from you with your thoughts.
Am trying to get through a backlog of aussie films I have wanted to see for some time.
Two Fists One Heart the other night - I have to say was much better than I thought it would be but still not as brilliant as some I have seen recently.
Just finished, The Empire Strikes Back. Great film. We bought the trilogy a week ago to introduce our kids to it. They don't get all of it, but do like the characters.

Sounds like fun mark. I hope they bring out the original on blu ray without the alterations....Han shooting first!!

Interesting Sven-we bought a set that included 6 discs-DVD & Blu Ray. I had to Google "Han shot first". A lot of controversy over a 2002? released version that shows Greedo shooting first and Han moments after. What? Han shot first!
Our DVD shows the original '77 scene with Solo not waiting for Greedo to kill him & of course, shooting first!

Save Your Legs - Don't bother, nuff said.
Freaks again. What an amazing film for its time.
Home Fires the 2015 British TV drama series. The Britsh have a knack of making first rate television series and this is one of them.
