South Pacific

I was amazed to see South Pacific sell on emovieposter yesterday for $291A. That's an amazing price and obviously at least two collectors were very keen on it. In celebration, i bought a spare copy last night on eBay for $9.99!
I might send it over to Bruce and see if lightning strikes twice.

That was surprising. At least check the bd history to see where the 3rd underbidder took it to!  $9.99 ! Bargain hunter strikes again!

    The superman did well also
  • i expected Superman would get around $500, Splendor in the Grass at $200+ was a big sale.

Another one that got huge bids a while back was The Killing that converted to more than $800A. I'd be tempted to sell my only copy if someone offered that to me!
  • Obviously, we have great daybill BUYERS right now, but sadly have mostly run out of daybill consignors.

All the daybills, German, Mexican posters and French and German LC sets I had on hand went in the auction last night.

Since they all really sold, that means "the cupboard is bare", so the next such auction will be July at the earliest, UNLESS some kind collector or dealer sends a very quantity of these sizes.

I almost grabbed that one, but American Hussle was on the box and got distracted :(

  • I got my South Pacific Daybill in early March for a cool $24...and in vg/fine condition! What a bidding war! :o
  • Raises a question that often comes up for me: with 3 examples of a poster being sold within weeks of each other for $9.99, $24 and $291, what is the poster's true value?  If you were going to list one for sale today, how much would you ask for?
  • well i guess there were two people willing to pay nearly $300 for it, but if i listed one on ebay i'd imagine $50 or less

Bruce has lots of customers that dont go near ebay i suspect
  • I'd linenback mine-auction on eBay starting at $89, buy it now for $125. But mine was in vg/fine condition.
  • eBay does almost everything they can to run off buyers and sellers. They let sellers of fakes keep selling (in spite of endless complaints) and they harass many good sellers. Practically every month we get another call from a large seller who says they are done with eBay.

  • *sigh* eBay really hurts the hobby with their lack of care. There must be more fake Halloween lobby cards out there now than originals!
