Really a shame. I go to these places for relaxation and entertainment. I have no desire to present my passport at each armed camp in order to read posts about how all the other forums are full of bitchy little girls. At this point I see all the forums as dead or dying.
Perhaps. But name a social gathering anywhere in the world (online or otherwise) where people don't have disagreements...
It isn't the disagreements.  You expect those in forums.  The issue is that what once was a functioning forum has become disfunctional.  This one isn't there yet.  He who is unnamed here is unlikely to gather a following in his new home. By splitting this up into multiple forums with pretty much the same goals, you lose the interaction among members.  APF lost most of its heavy posters.  This place only picked up some.  Some stayed put at APF.  Some went back to NSFGE. The end result is that ideas don't flow.

Old joke:  What happens when two Methodists move into town?  First Methodist Church and First Methodist Church, Reformed.
  • ^ Yeah facebook wont work like a forum does. Std photos are too small and too hard to see the photos. Yuck, FB not for me.

I agree one large active forum would be ideal and it was great (to me) when that was the case. For me, when threats Admin would shut the forum down were getting frequent and increasingly serious, what to do but jump to somewhere more stable without the stress, unless I am doing a spell check sweep.

Side note, APF forum will look next to dead unless they open up the Movie Poster / General Discussions section to non members again. If it is a result of taking a sledgehammer just to hide the one thread (Mid Auction Analysis) by locking out the whole section, more people will participate her.

    You know I was wondering...

    Mel had 7,000+ posts
    I had 4,000+ posts
    David has 4000+ posts
    Mat had ? probably 3000+?

    That's like that is 18,000 posts...  Probably comes out to around 16 posts/day.  That's ~480 a month - 5,760 a year...

Last year there were 32000 posts...

Us four accounted for 18% of the posts on APF.  If you toss out all the dealer posts that percentage climbs significantly.

Forgot to add Steve's in there...

So that is 6900 per year = about 21% of the posts
  • Charlie, you'll hit 6900 posts a year, here, just as one member

  • And that's the answer to the Witchfinders general`s issue

Jay I agree with what you've said except for this bit.

"The issue is that what once was a functioning forum has become disfunctional.  This one isn't there yet."

There's one thing you don't know, the ANZAC spirit. Do some research my friend, we don't go down without a fight. Our mates in the trenches are the greatest assets for living. Charlie has that in his heart and in his soul. He's has that same ANZAC sprit too.

    You''ll see.

He's very tired that Matt, 25 hours awake...

There's a lot of comment about these forums being a great research facility for newbies. I truly doubt that is the case - first up, have you ever tried to use the search on the other forums? Bloody hell.

Because our forum is new the (searchable) data stored is still building up, but our search produces slightly better results however, as a general people rule don't use forums for in depth research, most people just ask and wait for the answer (which is usually quite prompt). So the fact that some have deleted their images recently is really a meh.

I think design will play a factor on attracting new people; people are mobile and use their mobile more and more to do what they used to use their PC/Laptop etc for - the fact is, and as far as I am aware, ours is the only mobile enabled movie poster forum this makes it attractive and easily usable anywhere.

Sure I can hear the snorts now "pffft, who needs to have mobile ready website, we been this way for years and it worked just fine..."

Then you are not really interested in attracting new people...

In (a short) time ours will be found a lot quicker on mobile searches - type in Google now 'movie poster forum' (true, no one would type that, so don't get too excited by the results) but we already out rank older more established forums and we don't have anywhere near the same volume of content. It shows our SEO is working.

The experienced surfer is becoming less patient, they (we all are) are looking for a quick and easy online experience - our site doesn't require one to file an application to get approved, you can log in using a variety of social media with 2 clicks (we all know most people are social media savvy), our site also does have live chat (cool), and overall the layout is easy on the eye.

One forum many forums, it's doesn't matter, let the chips fall where they may...

And yet, last I checked, the Earth continues to spin :-$
  • But not in the same way. Now that the world has lost a guy named M-E-L.
  • He may have reconsidered joining here...  =))
  • Mel said on his facebook page he wants to promote his site on a couple of forums

Something odd is going on, his facebook site has been removed or requires special permissions or something.

Oh, it was deleted (it was a facebook Group for members), now it has been rebuilt as a facebook Page (open to all people to comment)

  • Well I guess now he can out auctions for the masses
  • He also posted on our timeline...not polite.
  • edited June 2014
What, Mel not polite?  I find that hard to believe   :P

I think you can ban specific people from posting to your facebook page

  • edited June 2014
Sounds like Mel is still reading member only APF threads (judging by reading his post in your timeline). He I believe had his account deactivated on APF so he must have signed up with or is using a different account.

Yes you can, or at least stop them from posting to your page.

Anti Vanilla Mel has gone nuts. We like our vanilla

    Poor hexagonal Bella

  • *sigh* Silly Fucking Mel
  • Didn't the third reich start that way...
  • What's with the creepy gothic & car header image over at APF. I would have thought a good website image would be one that represents what the forum is about, maybe something along the lines of Posters would be good. But, hey, each to there own. It gives us something to talk about, along with the hiding of the majority of threads behind a member only wall. ( WTF is currently going on over there??? )
