  • I'll get the ball rolling with one on ebay probably 5 or 6 years ago. I was in the lead on this one before I went to bed. It ended around midnight. At that stage it was $107.50. I thought it would at least go for $300+. I can't remember what my max bid was, probably something close that.

Woke up to find I'd won it. Looked at the final price, $107.50. Holy crap!

A week later I opened the package to find it was in absolutely near mint condition. Man was I one happy camper.

  • Was I about right, 5 or 6 years?

Yeah it was certainly in that time frame

I think Rick said the same thing at the time.
  • Thats a great score Matt, well done. How about that Rebel without a cause daybill that went for $150 who won that?
  • I watched that one while I was unemployed.  GRrrrrr
  • What about the Bus Stop for $140?
  • Had to replace my keyboard when that sold.

  • You know the seller george on ebay? He won that one!
Went very cheap, lucky my plate was full at the time!

  • Mario was it. Bastid!
  • George won it, he sells for Mario. 2 different guys
  • So he told me a while back, so you spoke with George about it?

  • George won it, he sells for Mario. 2 different guys
George also likes to not actually ship out posters you win (or answer e-mails for that matter)

Yeah but my grumbling is so much more dramatic ;)

I've dealt with both george and mario in the past. These are the two guys that got a steal of posters, a collection that turned up in tasmania packed with massive title daybills Casablancas, Maltese falcons, Gone with the wind, 39 steps etc. I spoke to Kosta the seller of bus stop and desire daybills. He told me who won them.

That's because Rick is a gentleman. Not that I'm saying you're not. ;)

I've not heard anything about this.  How long ago was the "find" made?

  • Gotta include the restoration costs!

Obviously, that makes sense, but I find that most collectors don't think that way. Most will bid $200 on a poster that is backed which sells for $200 in lesser condtion unbacked. But often that same person will buy the lesser condtion unbacked one for $200 and then pay $150 to have it backed. But they only bid $200 on the backed one, even when it was well backed.

That is why some of the best buys ever are in auctions of linenbacked items, IF you can completely trust the auction house to describe the extent of the restoration or the quality of how well it was restored.

  • I told the story a few times already, but I found this at 50 euros, and sold it on ebay at around $900

How the hell a happy birthday one sheet (supposedly sent to theaters showing the film for one year straight) ended up down here, I don't know. I like to think it was the only one ever to touch argentinean soil.
