Sons of Matthew Australian one-sheet and daybill

For those who like country of origin posters from important early Australian movies, we have BOTH the Australian one-sheet and daybill from Sons of Matthew in Part II of our April Major Auction!

Sons of Matthew (which was released in the U.S. in 1950 as "The Rugged O'Riordans"), the 1949 Charles Chauvel Australian family relationship action adventure romantic love triangle melodrama ("Actually filmed in Australia's jungle wilderness!"; about a family of Irish immigrants in the Outback in Australia) starring John O'Malley, Thelma Scott, Michael Pate, Ken Wayne, and Tommy Burns.

Note that this movie started filming in March of 1947, but took 18 months to complete because Australia had it's greatest rains in 80 years during the time it was being filmed! After six months on location in Queensland, they moved to a studio in Bondi, to try to escape the rain, but had to return to Queensland for five more months, and then more months in Bondi! It was finally released in Australia in December of 1949 to great success there (it is estimated that 750,000 Australians saw it).

Universal Pictures cut the movie by 30 minutes and added an American narration to it, and released it in the U.S. and in England in 1950. It is one of the most important of the early movies filmed in Australia.
