  • Wow David you've certainly been holding out on sharing some acquisitions!

You should be ashamed as an Aussie paper collector tsk tsk

Thanks Chris but not really, just have a pile in my "crappy posters that needs to be restored or sold" folder that I was reminded of the other day, hence this topic - I don't even have photos of them.
  • Well if they are of a similar vintage to the ones you've just posted I, for one, would sure love to see them some time!

I think I have a couple of no-name noir ones, no one likes them...

I know of a non-profit shelter that will take them in
  • "Hot spot" could easily be "Wet spot". That's some serious staining!!
  • It is Betty Grable, at least her legs were OK...
  • I just noticed the 4 are rolled. Is that common on aussie stuff from that era?

I am not sure if they are truly rolled (as in never folded) - and David can clarify - but it sure looks like they came from under flooring (hence the staining) and that would eventually all but remove evidence of any former folds.

Possibly from the find that had the Wizard of Oz?

Just the way they were stored, under a bed.

    Under the bed......they have stains!!!

Ummm...David, next time tell a little white lie. Under the lino. That's what I'd be telling Dario.
    ;)
  • OK, good point...under someone's bed and I have never seen the bed....or been under it.
  • I'm glad you cleared that up.

  • David,

Now you know that Hold that Ghost BELONGS with me!  Where it will get the love and respect it deserves.

In your heart of hearts you know this is true...send it on over.

What this old (restored by) thing?

  • I liked 'em better when they had "character" the water stains gave them a certain moist look... :^o ...JK! They look fantastic!!! :-bd
  • Very nice David - I thought you hadn't decided if you wanted to go to Resto route yet?  Seems remarkable turnaround time from when you first posted them!
  • Incidentally does anyone else have examples of or comments on Studio M's work?

Not really, I've had them longer and yes they were in my don't know what to do with them pile, when I photographed them for this competition that convinced me to get them redone.

As to Studio M - Michael (who trained in New York) previously did my Cleopatra and although I have been loyal to Dario the crashing Aussie dollar means I would have had to pay almost double to get it done with him this time round (inc postage) , logic rules. His work speaks for itself as far as I am concerned.

Yes, that hideous thing.  Even better...I've emptied out the frame ready for its arrival.
  • I dunno...it's unique, one of a kind, not sure framing it is good enough.

Yeah, I looked on EMP & HA to see what one would sell for...nothing to be found! Nice piece. :)>-

Typical with a lot of Aussie one sheets

It was printed in very small numbers - in the '80s/90s a person who worked at MAPS said a typical print run for an AU1SH was 300-500. Rarely if ever, were they asked to do a reprint by the distributor, so I can't see why they would print more than that 30-40 years earlier. Makes them harder & rare to find almost no matter what decade.
  • David wins 8 to 4...
