They have rounded up the usual suspects.

The Sunday April the 19th auction on eMovieposter.com  with the Australian daybills and one sheets for sale in the main it is a case of round up the usual suspects.

    A few nice looking usual suspects...Rita...Jane :x

There are a few rarities though...take that Naked Spur daybill for example...for some reason the artist decided to puff up jimmy into an overweight chop... could have been sooooo nice.. Was hoping other Mann/Stuart titles would pop up...the waiting game...

  • The Wake Island Richardson daybill attracted my attention. A rare colour poster of this title and would be a prize for any Richardson daybill collector.

  • I may try to go for the Way of a gaucho one (that is if I can get the funds...)
  • The Aussie dollar is be killing it for USD$ auctions for Aussie based Aussie collectors.

A everyday USD$700 poster is now converted over AUD$1,000 landed - the dollar will recover and then all you are left with is a $700 poster you paid $1,000 for.

This is an interesting one Daivd. I'm no economist, and certainly our dollar will recover, but how much is the question...given the critical mass of our exchange rate history is below US $.90.

I wonder when us poster collectors will consider it "safe" to come back into the market?

Well it is an interesting discussion and for those who are price conscious then believing the dollar will recover must factor into one's purchasing decisions. Remembering that for the most part the poster you seek to buy is like the bus, another one will likely be along.

Right now the USD$ is gaining strength and the AUD$ is taking a shellacking, I think it will recover, I do think eventually the RBA and the government will be singing from the same song sheet and international confidence will return (to our dollar), in the meantime I am more wary about spending USD$ on the more common(ish) pieces.

All that said, we collect movie posters, we really have no self control and sometimes the heart rules. As the saying(s) goes "in for a penny in for a pound"; "throw caution to the wind" and of course the motto of all movie poster collectors: "a fool and his money are easily parted".
  • You're on the money with your summary me thinks!

Actually David, it is the US Dollar that has recovered...

Me wonders if the nice collection of rarer daybills/one sheets Bruce has auctioned over last couple years has finally run its course?  This auction, while much better than the mini/major, has nothing for me.

Come on Bruce - don't force me to start collecting Mexican lobbies

  • Plenty of Daybills out there and they're still seeping out of the woodwork, often these owners generally don't collect yet are well versed in eBay and know how to use Google to find local dealers to contact first.
  • Makes it difficult when you reside in Canada eh?
  • A tad...

That's exactly what he is doing to me right now...
