Silk Screened Posters

Have been fascinated by the color & graphics of silk screened posters. When were they made? 30s-60s? Do they come in all sizes? US & foreign as well? Can they be conserved-washed, deacidified, bleached like others, or does the silk screen ink react differently? Thanks for any info! :)>-

  • Mexico and Argentina have silk screened posters. Colombia too.
    I love them also!

  • Here's one I have. Half sheet for a rerelease of "Well's Fargo"

  • And another from a friend's collection

  • Like the a Wells Fargo poster especially! Good image of J Mcrea! Have you had any restored? Linen backed? Is silk screening more popular in the countries you mention? Guess I need to research the process. Was also curious about treatment during conservation/restoration. Thanks...Matias?
  • Yep, Matias it is.
None of the pictured are on linen, and I'm not sure how silk screened posters would react to conservation. Maybe Charlie or Dario could chime in,
Silk screened posters are not very common in Argentina. The 2 pictured above are from rereleases and were made for a specific city,
Mexican silkscreen are more common. Usually with the same art that the litho one sheets have, with less colours and a more crude rendering of the image.
  • Silk screen was quite popular in the UK, I do have a few myself. I'd have to check if I had any backed ones, but off hand I'd say not..

This is one that comes to hand..

  • That's freaking awesome Paul!
  • Very nice Paul! Great colors! \:D/
  • Silk Screen posters have a wonderful texture, from my experience It can be a bit risky backing them as the color can lift with the backing process.
  • Thanks-I wouldn't shy away from buying one but certainly would ask the person doing the linen backing about color loss in the process-especially with the vibrant ciolors they seem to come with.
  • There's a few canadians right now at Bruce's...

    Good stuff!!

  • Very nice, thanks! Will have to check it out-haven't by EMP for a week or so-love the simple, bold, 2-3 color design-and this one has that cool simple 50s design to it! :)>-
  • Looks like an Aussie poster - must be some kind of subliminal hemispheric connection
