The decline in the artwork of Australian daybills starting in the early 1950s is often discussed but the artwork from the majority of 1940s films is often neglected. Even 'B' film titles are excellent examples of the work of top poster artists such as the two examples shown below.

Pre 1950s design are generally great, specially the mid 30s thru to the late 40s, just a lot harder to find.

Personally I have found the art produced by W.E Smith during this period pretty special.
