  • Did you just make a pun?

Looks like Gregory Peck... Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.
  • Oops he's not real...  :|
  • Looks like one half of the Beatles
  • Our fellow American members interested in their naval history should be able to correctly work out this famous sailor and who portrayed him and the film's name..
  • John Paul Jones, portrayed by Robert Stack, but I don't see it personally...

I can't find a daybill image.  Lawrence, can you please post it?

  •                                                      It is John Paul Jones from 1959. It is the name of the real life person as well as the film. Robert Stack indeed played the title roll. A non American answered an American history film answer so well done Ves. The portrait of the real life John Paul Jones is by Charles Wilson Peale painted in 1781.
  • I believe I was correct with my [cryptic] answer 'looks like one half of the Beatles i.e John Paul (Ringo George).

Get it? Beatles? John Paul, one half of?

    Never mind...been a long week  =)

O.K. as I missed the pun that  also and as it was a good one the review panel being me has overruled the original awarding of a half a point and has now ruled a full point be awarded.
  • Awesome Lawrence!  =)...now it's up to me to try to get one of these correct!

The Actress, Jean Simmons and Ruth Gordon Jones.
  • Correct on all counts. The Actress was a 1953 release. Was it the photograph, the ''any which way''  or a combination of both  that clinched it for you Ves or the image which is often seen around of The Actress? I loved Ruth Gordon in Harold And Maude.

Best known for Harold And Maude, Rosemary's Baby and the two Clint Eastwood movies Every Which Way You Can and Every Which Way But Loose where she played Ma. In 1940 she played Mary Todd Lincoln in Abe Lincoln in Illinois. The following is a scene from the film showing her with Raymond Massey.
