Day the Earth Stood Still poster

Hi.  Cleaning out a storage room, I came across a 1950s version Day the Earth Stood Still movie poster I bought at an estate sale about 20 years ago.  I looked at a movie poster website and found it but authentication is fuzzy and hope maybe I could learn more here.  It is unused (no pin or staple holes, folding, etc.) but has no copyright or other printing on the border.  It's 20"x26".  Any chance it's the real deal or has any monetary value?  Thanks.

  • Could you post a pic of it?
  • +1 A picture is the only way to help you out.
  • If it doesn't have the NSS info it is probably a reproduction.

    Does it look like this?

  • If there is no information in the white border at the bottom then it is more then likely a reproduction. Would like to see a pic of it that will help us all determine if it is real or not.
  • 20x26 is a very bad sign...
  • There's an old Cream song there somewhere..  It's on a light weight paper, and I don.t think it's a laser copy.  I got it back in the 80s- the Cretaceous in printer evolution.  Been protected under plexiglas. Please see pics below.  Thanks.
  • It is most likely a reproduction.  I have a Gone With the Wind Half sheet similar to this.  It probably feels like a real poster and has the patina of a real poster, but was probably printed in the late 70s / early 80s...

Sorry it is not the gem you were hoping for but it still look great - hang it up over the guest toilet and see if you get a laugh or two.

This is a bit harsh don't you think?
  • Thanks for your take.

    All the best,

I meant it as when your guest read "the day the earth stood still" in the bathroom, you might get a laugh. Nobody is going to know it is a fake - that is not what they would be laughing about... Not harsh, just misunderstood.

Perfectly understood ya Charlie.  You have any posters up in you're toilet?
  • I think if Paul could find me a decent "Boom" quad I would have a good laugh hanging it up. Right now we just have signed art prints in our bathrooms.
  • I understood what you meant Charlie, now whats this Boom Quad look like...?

I have two Travel posters up in my guest Bathroom...  Maybe it's time for a change.

  • Ah, that one.. Some days I'm a bit slow...
  • I always have wanted to put a title card from THE BIG NOISE in the bathroom (insert wife rolling eyes).
  • The Fog?
  • This sound like a good thread topic...
