    Videodrome?
Totally understand where you are coming from with your Videodrome answer for C459. Thinking Debbie Harry was the famous singer from my clue makes sense. I am sorry though to inform you that your answer is incorrect.

I desperately hoped your "water" clue could refer to her hit "The Tide is High"!

I am clueless even with your excellent clues.

Sorry you were disappointed. in not finding the correct answer.
  • C459 - The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976). Took a while but found it after your last clue about the male singer.
Correct and I am well pleased that we have finalised this one.

The water clue referred to an alien's mission to find water on earth for his dying planet. The singer clue was provided for David Bowie.

  • And done without a Google image search too!

    Peter
  • And done without a Google image search too!
    Well worked out then.
  •  C461  C462
A further two images to ponder.
  • C461 - first thought was Around the World in 80 Days....but the sandbags are wrong.

So, how about The Wizard of Oz - 1939?

    Peter
  • C461 - first thought was Around the World in 80 Days....but the sandbags are wrong.

So, how about The Wizard of Oz - 1939?
Yes you are correct. Well done and promptly answered.

  • C462.  No idea, but the woman's head appears to be (poorly) pasted onto the body.
Period is earlier, but I a thinking film is from the 40s

To set you on the right path a clue is that the film is from the 1950s.
  • C462 clue is this actress had three siblings at one time or another working in Hollywood.
  • A final C462 clue is patriotic song.
  • Based on your clues I am thinking it should be Jeanne Cagney. And the most classic movie she was in in the 1950s was Man of a Thousand Faces,

Sorry it isn't her, but your thinking was sound,

I will reveal the answer sometime soon if the correct answer isn't forthcoming,

Previously I had stated that I had given my final clue, but in wanting to obtain the answer another clue I will present to you is composer and conductor.

How about "Stars and Stripes Forever" (1953)

    Peter
  • Good one as C462 is indeed Stars And Stripes from actually 1952. Debra Paget and Robert Wagner had appeared in the earlier pictured scene.

U.S,A, printed international one sheet poster with alternative title for overseas countries.

    .
Australian daybill poster with yet another title, but with no mention of John Phillip Sousa's name
  •  C463
     C464
Let's now see how we fare with these two new different genre images
  • C463 is The Incredible Shrinking Man

Correct. One of my favourite 1950's sci-fi films, The Incredible Shrinking Man from 1957.

  • C464 The Lady Vanishes (1938), I knew it was a Hitchcock, tried Strangers on a Train first, then 39 Steps, before realising it was The Lady Vanishes.

Correct. You got there in the end and that is what counts.

  •  C465  C466
    Two more images to ponder.

  • I'll take a stab in the dark with C465 - Pirates (1986)?

    Peter
  • edited May 2024
Problem with  c466 is that multiple films used this exterior (Schleissham Palace)
I think you want Last Year at Marianbad, but it also could be Paths of Glory or even The Three Musketeers
  • I'll take a stab in the dark with C465 - Pirates (1986)?
Sorry but it isn't that film. This particular film in question was adapted from a fictionalized story that was based on a real life occurrence.

You are correct with your second guess. Paths Of Glory from 1958, and it is included in my all time list of top ten films.

The above clue for C465 is a strong one that I suggest you have a good think about

A final clue is that the story has been told many times over a long period of time.
