The thing about new collectors coming into the game is ultimately as their tastes mature so does their preferences, some will begin to add older more desirable pieces to their collection. We only have to look at one Five Star collector [he who shall not be named, but you know who I mean - Mel] who was known for collecting new stuff and now collects the old.
I am sure those who desire the old pieces is a small percentage of the totle who entered the hobby at the same time but then again, there is only a small percentage of the old stuff around.
Prices also fluctuate - from memory (correct me if I am wrong) a BAT 1SH was up around $6-8K perhaps 8-10 years ago, 4 or 5 years ago one could pick them up for $2-3K and now, back around $4-5K
Too simplistic Chris, that is suggesting there are no new collectors coming into the game and on that basis the hobby should have died years ago.
We're talking about "in quick succession" no? So in such a short time frame new $ entering the hobby will have little affect on these particular sales. If we are talking over the course of years well, yes, without them (us actually!) the hobby would be near death.
Ok then let's agree to disagree......you can tell all the Bond, Star Wars and Eastwood fans that their fav one sheets are crap. :P
Crap? Where you pull that from Matty? I think you have misunderstood me! I collect Aust One sheets myself, i'm not bashing them. Just telling it like I see it, I apoligise if I offended you. I'll tell you an oberservation I made recently which you may find interesting. You do know Kerry Ratcliff aka gene696969 on ebay right, well before he started listing hes gear on ebay he offered up all hes collection to other collectors. You're probably wondering yeah and? Well let me tell you my friend the majority of all the great daybills he had got snapped up, dr no., early hitchcocks etc. and the stuff that didn't sell started getting listed on ebay, Dr no. OS, AFFOD, FAFDM, GBU etc. Most of hes OS still unsold.. Why? Maybe priced too high? I think they are priced right! Just not many buyers for Aust Os. This is just one example..
No need to apologise Reg, I was taking the piss really, hence the tongue :P. I'm just saying to have a number of two OS's that are easy sells for good money is a little far fetched in my opinion.
Most of his OS still unsold.. Why? Maybe priced too high? I think they are priced right! Just not many buyers for Aust Os.
That doesn't make sense, if they are priced right then they would have sold. The reality of what one wants for a poster and what the market is prepared to pay are often two different things. If anyone thinks the poster they have listed at a 'buy it now' price is the 'right price' then list it for auction with no reserve and see what happens.

You've made sense of what I'm saying yet you can't see it. So what you're telling me Dave is a Dr no. Aust OS that is much rarer than the daybill version should be sold for less? Because there is no demand right? Again you have you're answer Daybill's are more collectable in most cases than the Aust OS full stop. This is just one title I'm talking about and there are many others like this. If it still doesn't make sense too you, then IQ might be an issue on you're end because its not rocket science. :P
And my one comment so far would be - rarity doesn't mean shit if no one actually wants to buy it. Just because Aussie one sheets are rarer doesn't mean they are automatically more valuable...

Actually I was only commenting on the fact that you suggested that Kerry's prices for his 1SHs were just right but as as you pointed out, they remained unsold - this suggests they are not the right price. I am not commenting on Daybill vs Aus1SH collectibility (yes I know that's not a real word).
As to my IQ, sadly, and with apologies to former Prime Minister Robert Muldoon - I should point out that when I left APF to join VMPF I raised the IQ of both forums.
:P :-B
PS - I have edited our posts (only changing the colour of the text) as our quotes of the other person's comments were running into each other and hard to define who said what
My original comment was that Aust one sheets are a safer bet in regard to declining value due to multiple posters turning up. I believe that is also the gist of this thread.
There are at least 10 GWTW daybills out there and probably more. Does anyone think 10 GWTW Aust one sheets will ever turn up?
If you go and pay $5K+ for a poster you better have a pretty extensive knowledge of what's actually available in the market. If checking HA & EMP databases is the extent of your research, then you have a steep and expensive learning curve ahead.

Well I think I agree with the volume of posters turning up albeit it comes in waves. One thing we know is that Daybill production count vs One Sheets was about 3-1, it stands to reason that there will be less 1SH around.
That said there is a higher proportion of Daybillers out there. I think 1 sheet collecting is more for the purists (if there is such a thing), the person that also has the Daybill.
You don't understand english? I said stay clear of my posts. The only person you're fooling is urself. The word is out is it? This coming from someone that has no credibility and integrity, who comes on forums makes false claims and comments to provoke a bad reaction from other members. Furthermore you use you're word's carefully so the mods here don't delete you're posts. Like a snake in the grass for better word.
Most collectors here know I am honest and genuine.
And we don't want to hear 'yeah but he said this and that'.
A reminder.
1. Arguments
This is not Fight Club and sure, there is going to be clashes along the way that happens in forums. Our advice is get over it quickly and once it's over then don't bother bearing a grudge to start up again at the first opportunity, else we'll kick your ass right out the door.
