Regarding use of acetic acid as a reactant after deacidification and bleaching chemicals... is that the same as vinegar? If it's neat acetic, wouldn't it burn?

Yes, I think Dan Strebin was/is a big collector but he did do backing at least in the early '90's and his method was to pre-shrink canvas and then mount using a vacuum press/frame/table - picture framers use them for mounting… -
Around 1994 I read about a Los Angeles restorer by the name of Dan Strebin. His work from all reports was highly regarded. Anyone know if he's still restoring?

I read somewhere that methyl-cellulose paste is a direct substitute for starch paste - not just for repair and hingeing, but for lining as well, not to mention that there is no cooking and it keeps almost indefinitely too.
