I was just notified that I was selected as the National (US) Society of Professional Engineers 'Young Engineer of the Year'... I was excited after winning Texas but am floored with the national honor... I mentioned the forum on the national application - I am sure that is what put me over the top!!!!

Finally, I can say I know someone who National (US) Society of Professional Engineers 'Young Engineer of the Year' - it's been a blot on my copybook until now not having that on my own résumé

I don't know how telling the judges about the people -and I use the term loosely- you hang out with in this forum helped to win the first place, but congrats anyways Charlie!

The tough part is you only get one shot to go all the way...  The only time you can resubmit is for the local chapter.

First you have to win your chapter (Houston in my case).  

If you win that, you get one shot at the State award...  Each chapter in theory turns in a single applicant; there are 24 chapters in Texas.  

If you win that, you get one shot at the National award...  Each State society (~50) submits one applicant and they go head-to-head.

I spent days on the application and got about 15 reference statements from clients about my work...  But I am smiling now!

Get a free trip (well airfare) for the wife and I to Seattle...

Charlie, that's really cool. To beat out the best of the best...I think I read where you've been to Australia before? My mom & sister live in West Seattle and my brother lives in Queen Anne (adjacent to downtown Seattle). I've visited many times, mostly in summer, GREAT place to visit! The food, weather, parks, cultural activities...you'll really enjoy it! \m/
